No. The XL does not support IDE, only ATAPI.

hmmmmm, i think it will work, IDE(ATA) was originally designed for hard disks only, in this case they mean the same thing. cos ATAPI/IDE removable devices use the IDE channel to communicate with the MPC (or computer).

As long as it's 3 1/2 inches to fit in the drive slot it should work.
I thought IDE was the same as ATAPI because the ATAPI devices uses the IDE channel to communicate with your computer (MPC)?

youre right but where would you plug in the IDE cable? I dont think there is a IDE connector in the mpc.

A zip drive is an ATAPI device. A connector that supports only ATAPI does not support IDE. Check the archives, this has been covered before.

It's an IDE/ATAPI CF reader. They claim IDE-only systems will recognize it as an Atapi device.

I am aware of that one, but it was not the one the poster was originally referring to.

I suspect the ATAPI will not work since Akai Pro/Numark could have just plopped that one in without having to update the OS (at a cost of thousands of dollars). Instead they opted for the Addonics IDE(?) reader along with an OS update, which may only work on that specific model.

But as it stands now, no one has confirmed that any IDE (or ATAPI) card reader works under 1.14.

i spoke to vstservice.com (the people who do the mcd upgrade for 199.99) and they said they use a modified version of 1.14 - os 1.14C. whatever that means
