help a novice

the way i work, i let the mpc record and i keep tapping drum patterns untill i find something that i really like. however i find i cant delete the stuff i dont want. when i try to erase stuff, i am left with unwanted blank space, follewd by my 8 beat loop.
it means i then have to record my beat into my pc, edit it, and resample my beat back into the mpc.

what am i doing wrong and is there a better alternative.

I tend to create a 16 bar sequecne, assign each drum instrument to it's own track (i.e hats on track 1, kick on track 2 etc), then record each track one at a time. I then copy and paste the best bits to a second sequence and build from there. I'm not sure exaclty what you are doing, but it sound way too complicated. Can you explain step-by-step what you do, in detail?

tutor you should post some of your work........

i set the mpc up with the loop off and 0 bars.

i then start tappin out drum patterns untill i find THE particular section i like, whether it lasts 4 / 8 bars.

now here's the bit i am finding confusing:
if i am drumming for 30 seconds and i find something i like thats lasts from the 5th second to the 21st, how do i erase the excess. (i.e from the start to 5th second and 22nd second to the end).
when i use the erase techinque suggested in the manual, the sounds get deleted, however i am left with dead air. what i would like is to remove the beginning section so that the beat starts once i press play.

as i dont know hot to make this happen i am left with excess dead air. therefore i record the whole section into my pc where i can edit the drum pattern to the desired bars.

then i play my edited pattern back into the mpc and use it as a sample.

this is a very long process. and i want to know is there an easier way

Just do as I do - take the section you like, say bars 5 to 9, and copy them to another sequence (starting at bar 1). It's nice and clean this way - otherwise, you have to start moving notes around within a sequence which although is not really a problem, can be confusing.

I'm sure everyone here has their own way of doing this this is the way I've always done it though. I usually end up with lots and lots of sequences - but that's good, as it gives you a lot to play with in song mode.

how do u select a certain region of bars for copying, is this in step edit mode?

naw hit f2 and then hit i think f2 again for bars. it is under copy then bars. you set the start and end bar for the copy as well as where you want to paste the bars to.
