mpc2000xl still owrth getting?

i'm considering buying an mpc4000, if i don't get one next up might be the 2000xl ...

... for some reason the mpc1000 doesn't really flick my switches, it's a relatively unknown quantity, as a friend asked what has the mpc2000xl got that the mpc1000 hasn't?

.. but he thinks I'm crazy and he's making me all unsure of my decision, so tell me I'm not crazy.

I'm not crazy getting an mpc2000xl when I could get an mpc1000 am I? They're different machines aren't they?

I really can't say if your crazy or not. What I can tell you is that I own both a 2000xl and a 1000. I use both. What I like more about the 1K is its size and the fact that it transfers sounds via USB. It makes my life that much easier. What I don't like is the fact that the 1K looks so flimsy, like if I ever dropped it I would be in trouble. Ask me how many times my 2K has been abused (too many to count). Go with what ever you feel suits your needs. Who cares what your friend has to say unless he's making the purchase for you.

word. two machines for two types of producers. 1000's are new school, on the go, usb downloadin type of cat. when the 2000xl is more the stay at home in the lab, stationary kind of cat. both are sick machines, but are from different schools. kinda like comparing the technics 1200 to the pdx 2000. or like the new game boy ds to the gamecube. both are sick machines, but you gotta go with what suits you. or you could play it big baller style like protoolsfool and copp both. i sold my 1000 to get my 2000xl se3. i plan on getting my 1000 back when the os bugs are fixed and when it has went around the block a few times. for now, the 2000xl is holdin me down. way down to earth. word.

The XL is a monster.
Nothing wrong with it at all.
You can do well with either.

I prefer the XL because of the history,
although I'm sure I would put the 1000 to good use too.

Don't sweat the decision.
Assess your needs and your methods.
Then make a choice and don't look back.

thanks guys, few ez pz questions re the 2000xl

max ram is 32mb yeah? no-ones hot-rodded it higher then?

has it 1 ram slot or 2, ie do you use 2x16 or 1x32? (there's some cheap 16mb sticks floating around on ebay right now)

i know you can replace the internal floppy with an ide zip, can you use an ide hdd?

or an internal SCSI hdd?

That's like asking if a mpc60 is still worth getting... it depends on if you need or want it. It's never obsolete
