Is it common that a zip drive has this little sound all the time when plugged in?

When I take the disk out of it, it stops immediately so its no problem, but I just wanted to know if its ordinary.

Peace

it should "go to sleep" after a while though (even with the disk still in there)

mine is really loud. i think its related to the age or use of the zip because it wasn't like this before. is there any way to fix/clean the zip? its really loud, i can hear it from the other room...oh yeah its noisy w/ disk or w/o so...

what type of scsi cable you need to go from a zip drive to the mpc ?? i notice there is a few different types... and tracking one down in town is **** hassle!! i think it will be easier to order one online...

If you have the classic 2000, the cable that comes with the zip works fine because the 2000 has the same type of SCSI port as the zip drive. The xl uses a different type of port & that seems to be the difficult cable or adaptor to find.
Have a look at http://www.scsiforsamplers.com

i used the "autodetect" cable that came with the zip plus drive and it works fine... is there anything to worry about ?? i heard it's easy to blow the scsi port on the 2000 ?!

i am able to boot off of it... and save / load i just don't wanna ruin my mpc!!
