Zip clarification

I have two Jaz drives and a Zip.
One Jaz has 1 or 2 as Id selections, the Other has 5 or 6 as the selection.
The Zip has 5 or 6 as well.
Are all of these ID #'s compatible with mpc2000xl.
And with that said I realize that the 2000xl has to be ID #6, so does that mean that I can not use two drives that are 5 or 6 selectable?
If the Mpc2000xl is 6 , then my two remaining drives need to be 5 which will not work at the same time AaaaHhh!
Any one shed some light on the 1 or 2 Id , as well as the 5 or 6 Thingy.
I want two drives up at the same time mostly for doing Backup and Xfers..

Each SCSI item needs a different ID, so you cant have two on ID 5 - so I assume it will have to be one or the other

Thanks for the info, so do you think I can keep them both hooked up with thier scsi cables but only power up the one that is in use without dismantling everytime?
And I guess that the 1 or 2 ID ( Drive) will or will not work in Mpc land?

the 1/2 one should work. the way scsi works each device needs it'd own scsi id number. set that one to 2 and the other to 5 and the zip to something else (i dont remember what the mpc id's at by default so check that) and you should be all set. just daisy chain their connections to hook them all up and then you can just switch the device on the disk screen (shift+3) to switch between the zip and the 2 jazzes.

ps. your mpc should allow you to look for scsi devices 1-7 on the disk screen.

Thanks Brain, The rumor i originally heard is that the mpc will not recognize a 1-2 (pc) Jaz drive, but will like a 5-6 (Mac Jaz Drive).
is this only a Rumor and thanks again for the advice

i dunno i just know that my mpc2000 not XL i have the original lets me browse for devices 1-7 i thinks. i know it lets me browse alot more than just 5-7 because when i scroll the wrong way to get back to my floppy it takes awhile.

I started that rumor
only for me it was true
I did an album called last true family man on my MPC 2000 saving to a JAZ Drive
and the shit always gave me troubles
finally crashed and set my album back a few months
ZIPS worked great after my little nightmare
however the XL may like Jaz better than the 2000 did

Well last night i hooked up a seagate, Jaz, and a Zip to the XL.
The Seagate read fine as #2, the Zip read fine as #5, and the Jaz read fine BUT was recognized as #0 and not #3 as it was dialed up on the rear of the drive.
At this point it can call it anything it wants, it works Good right now..

if it misread it is probably expecting a scsi terminator somewhere in your chain. my zip works as either 5 or 7 when the scsi hard drive isnt in the chain (the hd has the terminator on it). if its working though, just leave everything how it is and have fun.

Yeah i got the zip last in the chain and the terminator is on, and the Jaz is in the middle and is on auto, so i guess I will just have fun.

by default the mpc is set to 6 and has auto terminator; nothing can be set to six and termination should be set to off on all other devices.

by the way actually the way scsi works is if you have more than 2 devices in a chain (like he and i do) each end must (should) be terminated. the mpc's scsi terminal is terminated but the last device on the other end of your chain still needs to be terminated (which is where i said i have a hardware terminator in my scsi hd). check the manual or any computer info on scsi for yourself, it is under termination under notes on using scsi devices in my mpc manual. you should change your name to the king of beef. hopefully you won't be as frequent on here as you were on the old japan mpc users cafe board.
