compression on bass mpc2kxl to dps-12

i am trying to understand compression. when mixing from the akai to my dps i loose the power of my bass. could someone please help and explain what the compressor is and what it does for the final mix before mastering. thanks i would apreciate some help

it cant really be explained in a simple post. so your loosing low end when tracking to the dps. it is probably the converters. i lose a bit of low end when tracking into protools. analogue tape is the bomb to track to straight from the mpc. welcome to the world of digital bro. get your levels right and monitor from the dps.
