Ok everyone,

I think I am going to purchase this mpc 2k with the messed up LCD from this cat. I have been researching (very deep) for the past 72hrs about LCD replacements. I have come up with 3 pretty good sources besides the expensive ones (I think they are expensive) that everyone has suggested.

AZLCD :http://www.azo-store.com/newlcd/?ga=1

Roguemus (forget the exact address) I was quoted : $175 shipped

http://www.displaytronic.com/dtstart.php

they are in China

I will contacting the other 2 companies.
I thought I would give everyone a heads up who needs these screens.

MPC 2000 LCD part #s-11114b (that is a sharp LCD to my understanding)

thanks

Well the colors if I understand correctly is just the lumination inside and not the actual LCD. I think that requires soldeing which I have never done.

The blue or that green background looks good but my question is how long will it last?

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the MPC I am getting, the F2 button is smashed in. Where is there a cheap replacement for that besides places like Forat???

Thanks guys. Again Ill keep you posted.

1 ) LCD is ruined if MPC is left on. LCD's burn out. They are liquid Crystal. If left on they get too hot and burn out. The last thing you want to do is keep it on...I did, I had to replace my screen

2 ) Moving the screen a lot can ruin it. (in terms of opening case up etc...)

3 ) Replacing LCD isn't like replacing a disk drive or hard drive. Make sure the OHM's line up, the pot #'s, the font size and the X x X #'s are the same. You also have to ensure the connection's will line up. People assume that (I'm not saying you did) a 5 x 5 x 2 LCD will work if a 5 x 5 x 2 LCD broke. It won't. I went through hell trying to replace my LCD. I tried Korea, India, China, Canada and Mexico and got nothing. I found tons that would fit, but they always had 1 of the 6 spec's off. I ended up contacting someone at Akai and they confirmed what I suspected, and that the fact they were custom built LCD's where Akai designed the specs for the LCD instead of Akai using a generic LCD model. You can damage ANY device (not just MPC) if you connect a bad LCD to it so make sure it's compatible. Just be careful. I got the actual MPC screen (LCD) from Akai asia shipped to my door..... It took a couple of weeks and they are almost *ALWAYS* out of stock because the have to order the LCD's to be custom built. I don't know why anyone would sell this screen as a one off, as it's resolution would be too high for most applications anyhow. The cost wouldn't be worth it for a generic replacement.

Don't get me wrong, you may have found one but just MAKE SURE before you try it

Hi,

I didn't find anything on this website that has even half of the required resolution. I can't see any of these working. You need 248 x 64 dots.... It would be cheaper to go to Akai Asia anyhow....

Ok ill give them a try..
as far as that link, you are right I did not see anything but I did email to see.

It is just me $269 for a screen at dealer A, $180 here at place B, I mean, leaving it on in versus using the unit for long periods of time it will still wear it down no??

Boy, I had not idea this was going tbe that tricky!

But Im not giving up

Thanks for the input Samplerate!!

I went to guy's house today and got my MPC. The unit looks decent at the 1st glance. I turned it on and wola! The screen is screwed as stated on the ebay auction. No problem. It does not look that bad. I just dont understand how it messes up like that. Like an old nintendo game did when it got too hot!

I took the unit apart and looked at it. It seems the screen may have been replaced before. 1 of the screw holders was cracked.

I fixed the F2 button. It was mashed in like someone sat something on top of it for a long time.

I put the OS disk in and it loaded fine. You can see the semi-images where you can select what you want to do next but you cant be too sure. Ill play with it somemore. But other than that I feel I made a good purchase.

LCD LCD LCD!!!

yeesh

thanks guys!
