Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What is the best way to reduce file size of the samples in the MPC 2000xl? I know the MPC takes WAV/SND at 44.1/16. If I record my samples at double speed and then time stretch them will the samples be smaller than the original file size? I'm guessing the timestretched samples will be the same size as the original sample played at regular speed. I'm having a hard time getting the overall sample size of the project under 32mb. Any advice is helpful.

essentially, if you play a sample at twice the speed, it will play an octave higher (+12 semitones). Since it is playing twice as fast, it requires half of the sample time to record. In order to get it to play at the same pitch as the original sample, you need to play the sample pitched down an octave (or -12 semitones). You can find all kinds of fancy math to show the changes based on various speeds and such...
