Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Or is it just me?

I'm really trying to figure this out.

I'll have a banging ass drum sound playing from my comp, load it up into the MP, and it sounds nothing like what I just heard. All thin and and somehow th MP cut off like a good amount of the decay.

What the hell is up with this?

I'm seriously thinking of purchasing another piece to replace my 2000. This shouldn't be (walks off pouting like a bitter ****).

It's just you. Just playin....heheheh

I have actually found the opposite to be true; I take a decent sounding drum hit from my computer, sample it in to the MP and it sounds huge and punchy. Maybe YOUR DACs are just crap. You should really stop trying to pour water in the machine....it doesn't like that.

Peace man,

Try to learn how the functions of your shift 6 params screen.

2 WAY different machines, of course they will have a different sound.

Seriously, do you think it could just be that the DAC's on my machine are bad? Are there replacements?

Believe me, lamp, I can work my params screen like a mofo, but it just seems to me that the MP just dulls my sounds from the time I audition them in the loading screen.

I don't know, mehn, I don't know.

Is the MPC going through a mixer? Could it be that thinning the sound?

When you say
I'll have a banging ass drum sound playing from my comp, load it up into the MP, and it sounds nothing like what I just heard.
are you sampling the sound from the computer, or just exporting the sample via zip or whatever you use?

Also, is the sound that is really good on your computer going through any eq, effects or boosting in whatever computer program is playing it?

Oh, ok. Replacements for the DAC, I doubt it.
It's part of the motherboard. You have different
electronics in your computer and in the mpc. I do the same thing
and my samples sound phatter and more punchy on the 2kxl
than in my computer. Do you have effects or somethiing going on
your computer that you don't know about.

To say that the DAC's sound bad in the MPC2000XL you would also be saying that the DAC's sound bad in the Akai S2800, S3000, S3200, S2000, S3000XL, S3200XL, MPC2000 and of course the MPC3000.

I hardly doubt that Akai Pro could successfully release a long line of equipment with inadequate DAC's.

If my one statement could be generalized for the entire family, then that wouldn't be good for business, eh?

Even though I'm sure that the Akai DAC's aren't horrible, they aren't the greatest (they are no Apogee's now, are they?).

It could just be my model or something that I'm doing. Still trying to figure out here.

I'm loading from a zip. Also, I try to keep the signal on my monitors as flat as possible, but I may be messing up somewhere along the way, so I'll check. But I still don't understand why the decay on my sounds is getting deleted. Unless I go into Recycle and stretch the sound, it just sounds like a blip (specifically kicks). This upsets me a lot, especially I just spent like 20 minutes eq'ing and compressing the sound.

I'm really hoping I don't have a dud. I'd have to find someone with one to compare.

Hey Remedial i think im having the same problem as you. i will edit a Kick or snare in sound forge and it will sound great in my computer but when i transfer the kick via zip to the mpc it sound like a lil B**ch slap. its not the original full sounding kick at all, and when i ask others they act like I'm the only one with the problem. it kinda defeats the purpose of editing on the computer.

I have the same exact probelm too. When i edit kicks and snars on and load them from my zip. They sound completley differnt. People tell me to just sample direclty into the MPC but i like editing samples much more in sound forge.

Let me know if yall have a solution to this

classs.....

Change the note type to One Shot on the MPC. That way it plays out instead of playing only for the duration of the midi note. Explore your MPC. It appears that many people have not edited and manipulated samples directly in the MPC, else this would have been found.

This is likely a good example where a computer actually interferes with the process.

"If my one statement could be generalized for the entire family, then that wouldn't be good for business"

That is not the point. Akai would have went out of business years ago if they used inadequate DAC's. There is obviously a problem with the way you are hearing them, which could be anything from not knowing what the software you are using is doing to the hardware side of the monitoring system.

"they are no Apogee's"

Duh, of course not, and it is a silly statement. How could you compare the cost of a DAC that costs more than the equipment itself? So tell me, how many other sampler manufacturers put apogee in their sub 1500 gear?

First question, does one shot=mono? Also, there's no need to come off condescending to me, dog, calling my comments silly and shit. I was just making a comment, as you have. I understand that you may have a better working knowledge of this piece of gear than myself, but that still gives you no right to walk around here all pompous and shit. I appreciate your help, but I don't need someone who's going to kick me in the ass in the process. If that's the case, then I'd rather not have your help, dog.

So, with the others who've come out of the wood works to reiterate what I've said, this is obviously an outstanding issue with this piece of equipment. So it can't just be a user malfunction.
