Background Sounds

I recently downloaded a video of a guy sampling a sesame street theme, and he sampled the melody through a turn table, and his mpc. Many of you may have seen the video. That didnt amaze me, but what did was his ability to add a bassline to the melody, as an exact copy of the melody, if you follow me with that. Basically, what he did was take the melody and somehow transormed it into a bassline, and played both of them overlapping each other. To me it was the best thing since sliced bread. Does anyone know how he did this? Im very curious. Im just a beginner, so please explain to me step by step if its possible. Peace. -=ROMAN=-

I think he just muffled it a bit. Probably a lowpass filter? Maybe even the filter on the mpc.

yeah, I've seen this video. I'm pretty sure all he did was use the filter in the MPC. This works sometimes, but not always.

Right! Sounds like he just looped it on one track, then looped it again on another track and filtered the loop.
You can do this yourself in about 5 minutes, but it won't sound so hot with most sounds. If you have a computer, you might be better off making a copy of your sound and treating it with some more advanced filters. Then loading both sounds into the mpc, and voila!

So I gotta use some sort of filter. Where do i find this in the mpc? Or maybe even sound forge 6? I have sound forge, but i really havent had enough time to really delve into it and get to the nitty gritty. Where do i find this filter in the mpc? Do i need the eb16? Peace. Roman

shift 6 then select which drum and then find the pad you want to filter go to params and it should be right there with the reson.

yeah, he just filtered it real low. you can do the same thing by taking a bass sample and play it with the 16 levels function with the same melody as the sample.

dam domino makes it look so easy.
