Wow.... just read this over at electronic music news:

April 1, 2003
Akai has just announced that plans for the next version of it's award-winning MPC series samplers, the MPC 5000.

Akai has said that the 5000 will feature the following advancements on it's predecessors:
-digital 72 track digital recorder w/120 gb drive
-built in 16 fader mixing board
-88 key midi controller (as well as the standard 16 pads)
-full synthesizer engine (with technology licensed from Acess)
-Standard 16 XLR out and in ports
-10 inch color LCD monitor
-optional keyboard and mouse

The MPC 5000 is expected to start at $2500 for the base model. Akai will continue support for it's 2000 and 4000 models.

Not to co sign but I do remember reading something like that when i was researching mpc2000xl. How I remember coming across it was I went to the yahoo search screen and in the search engine I typed mpc2000xl. I was just going into some of the web site just reading and I ran across the new and upcoming products by Akai and I do remember seeing something on the mpc5000 or the mpc5500 can't remember word for word but it was all was in theory, or to say an idea. Nothing was set in stone.
