Some years back I bought a cf card reader from mpc stuff.com for my MPC 2000xl. Up until then I was using a zip drive wanted to convert to a CF card reader.
At the time of my purchase of the CF card reader I was not told that when upgrading the OS system on the 2000xl from the original 1.0 OS to the required 1.14 OS that all file names needed to be 8 characters or less (that was not a requirement with the original 1.0 version when using a zip). When I upgraded to the newer version all of my sounds that had names with more than 8 characters were cut down to 8 characters which in turn made those files unreadable/unfindable when loading a program .PGM on the mpc. The .PGM would search for a name and could not locate it. I lost a lot of music because of that. I am now looking to see if there is any new information or way to revert the changed file names back or if there is a way that the .MID sequence can locate the files?
