Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey everyone,

I recently installed a GoTek USB drive on my MPC 2000XL (replacing the original floppy drive). Installation went smoothly, no problems physically. However, ever since I did the upgrade, I can’t get any sound in or out of the machine.

Here’s what’s happening:
• I sample directly from a turntable setup — the MPC used to pick it up perfectly.
• Now, the input meters barely move, even when sound is coming in.
• There’s no sound coming out, and the pads don’t trigger sound anymore either.
• The weird thing is the MPC does register something coming in (the meters move faintly), just not like before.
• I swapped the GoTek back out and reinstalled the original floppy — but I’m still having the same issue, so the GoTek itself might not be the direct problem.
• I didn’t touch anything else during installation — just swapped the drives.

I’m assuming it’s something simple (I hope), like a blown fuse or a specific part I need to replace, but I have no idea what that would be. I really don’t want to give up on this machine or send it off if I can fix it myself.

Any help, advice, or pointers would be massively appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It is highly probable, that when you installed the Gotek, it caused an electrical short which resulted in frying an important resistor located just beside where the power connector on the mainboard is located.

The resistor you want to replace is :

It's just 4.7ohm, 1watt with 5% tolerance.

I hope it fixes your issue. Feel free to send me a gift card. I love you
