It will work better if you had a midi patchbay, but its possible without. I use a midi patchbay.
With the midi patchbay I have one cable going out to the MPC and both in/out to my triton. I set the MPC to receive MMC on what ever midi in I have to from computer. (ex...midi patchbay port 6 to mpc midi in).
Set your midi options in cubase to be the master MMC.
Note: you will have to create a blank bar or two on your mpc when creating songs or it will not start on the 1st beat.

Another type of MIDI-related synchronization is the MIDI Machine Control (MMC). The MMC protocol uses System Exclusive messages over a MIDI cable to remotely control hard disk recording systems and other machines used for recording or playback. Many MIDI-enabled devices support this protocol.
MMC sends MIDI to a device, giving it commands such as play, stop, rewind, go to a specific location, punch-in, and punch-out on a specific track.
To make use of MMC in a setup in which you are using a multitrack tape recorder and a sequencer, you need to have a timecode (SMPTE) track sending timecode to a SMPTE/MTC converter. Then you send the converted MTC to Cubase so that it can stay in sync with the multitrack recorder. Both devices are also connected through MIDI cables. It is the multitrack that controls Cubase's timing, not vice versa. Cubase, in return, can transmit MMC messages through its MIDI connection with the multitrack, which is equipped with a MIDI interface. These MMC messages tell the multitrack to rewind, fast forward, and so on. When you click Play in Cubase, it tells the multitrack to go to the position at which playback in Cubase's project begins. When the multitrack reaches this position, it starts playing the tape back. After it starts playing, it then sends timecode to Cubase, to which it then syncs.

To set up synchronization properties:
To open the Synchronization dialog box, Ctrl(PC)/ (Mac)-click on the Sync button in the Transport panel or select Sync Setup from the Transport menu.
Select the appropriate timecode source for your project.
If you have selected MIDI Timecode as your timecode source, select the appropriate MIDI input port on which the MTC arrives.
If your project requires that you connect with a MIDI Machine Control compatible device, select this option and set the appropriate MIDI output port to send and receive the MMC.
If you have other devices connected to your computer that require Cubase to retransmit synchronization signals to them, such as MTC or MIDI Clock, select the appropriate MIDI output ports.
You should leave the options (dropout time and lock time) in the Synchronization Setup dialog box at their default values. In the event that you need to change these values due to a bad timecode coming from a tape recorder or other source, you may access this dialog box and adjust the values until the timecode locks properly.
Close the Synchronization Setup dialog box.
Activate the Sync button on the Transport panel. Cubase now waits for an incoming sync signal.
To achieve better results when synchronizing Cubase to MTC, it is recommended that the sync box converting LTC timecode to MTC also sends out Word Clock information as well. This provides a more stable synchronization for both MIDI and audio. This option requires that:
You have a sync box generating Word Clock information.
Your sound card's Word Clock options are set to follow an incoming clock signal.
