When I sample via record in, 2000xl filters voices

Sup y'all
when I sample via the record in (plugs right next to the headphone & stereo outs), my 2000xl filters out the voices in the sample.
I bought it just yesterday (used).
I am not sure if it has to do with sampling settings or what.
The device I am sampling from is my personal sony cd player (without the bass boost on).
I have no idea about any type of setting or mode I am sampling in.
I called the guy I bought it from, and he didn't know what it was.
I sampled in mono r and mono l (i only have one cord, so stereo is impossible).
I get a wishy-washy sound when playing back my sample.
I don't know what else to say.

I am extremely green to this stuff, I've been using fruity loops my entire production career. Please help in a step by step fashion, or whatever you think is best. (i.e. mpc for dummies version)

Thats actually a good thing when you want to get samples without a vocal. Sometimes you get an accapella, sometimes you get the instrumental. Just take one of the rca's out and you'll get the full sound.

I dont have a digital i/o card. What do you mean? Please tell where you mean, physically. (ie: "next to the headphone jack" or (near the power button) or soemthing like that. thanks for the info, tho.

try get a stereo RCA > 1/8" jack thats what i use to sample from minidisk.

Okay... I did what you all asked me to do...i think. Look: here's my setup:

MPC 2000xl with 32mb simm (of course)
headphone jack with 1/4" adapter
my pt-01 turntable has rca (red and white cables) out. It is rca to 1/8".
I plug the 1/8" side into the 1/4" adapter in the left side of the record in.
I sample mono-left
and it still filters the vocals.
Until I realize how to make it not do that, I'm sampling that way.

is there anyway i can improve my setup so I can fix this error? (going to radio shack today)

Going off of the cd player example. The basic thing is since your cd player does'nt have 2 dedicated outputs for a headphone or line. You have to do 1 for 1. So if you have 1 cord coming from the cd player, you have to place 1 cord to your mixer or mpc. If your sampling from a turntable it may sound bad because you need a preamp. But countinue to experiment. You going to fin some good sounds either way. Its about being different.

the Problem is Caused by an odd Phasing of your 1/8 Signal.......
My Guess is that the signal is stereo but the MPCz 1/4 Ins are made for MONO

I thought that at first....but I looked up his model of turntable (PT-01), and it must have a built-in pre-amp, because it offers "Line Outs" rather than "Phono Outs."

In my opinion, I would try buying two separate cords that are each RCA--->1/4".
Then put one in the left and one in the right (instead of both left and right RCA's feeding into one MPC channel.)
Try that before buying anything expensive.
