Repeat? & Sequencing Question!?

Hola,

Is it possible to repeat the whole song when in song mode? When I put it on repeat it just repeats the sequence it is on...which seems a bit useless to me.

Has anyone got any advice on sequencing? I have got a heavy 2 bar loop and I am about to try and sequence it out seriously.....but I find sequencing on the MPC confusing and messy compaired to sequencing on the computer....I tend to get myself in a bit of a pickle....

Do any of you convert multiple sequences to one sequence in song mode? Its something i've thought about doing to keep sh!t a bit easier to control....

Sequencing on the MPC seems to me like its only downside.

Conver the song to a sequence (save it on an unused sequence) then play that sequence twice in song mode

what do you mean you're trying to sequence a 2 bar loop, are you playing it with the pads? if its a chopped sample and the auto-quantize is **** it up then turn off quantize by settings it to OFf, where it says 1/16 or 1/8 or 1/32

ive had my mpc for 6 days and i havent read the manual once

No I mean like....I've made one sequence of 2 bars....made a drum pattern, added some samples and some bass etc....enough to make a whole song...and now I just want to try and sequence it out with multiple variations, drum changes, sample alterations etc....

Any advice would be mustard,

Firstly I would suggest that you start working with 4 or 8 bar loops as this will give you a better platform to start with, although 2 bar loops will be fine for other parts of your track they will be to repetitive for main percussion.

Once you have a workable loop that you can base variations on, you may want to save it (shift>load>F2) before copying it (sequence field> open window>copy) to another sequence (sequence 2). The copied sequence will have the same tracks/ parts as the original sequence. You can now perform your edits on sequence 2 to create a verse, chorus, bridge, fill or whatever variation you require. Under normal circumstances, only the sequence selected in the main screen will play. (When you save a sequence it is saved as a midi file (.Mid), this can be edited /reworked if you import it into Cubase, Logic etc. Be sure to select Midi File Type 1 if your sequence contains more than one track!)

To see how the two sequences work together, use the 2kxl 'Next Seq(uence)' function. This is explained fully on pages 34-35 of the manual, personally I prefer to use the drum pads to do this (page 35). This technique will work for up to 64 sequences, with one assigned to each drum pad.

When you have your finished sequences and they are ready for arrangement, Song mode is used to piece them together and form a song in which each sequence may be repeated a number of times in the order you choose. Check the manual page 76.

If you don't have a manual, GET ONE!!!

If you want to master the MPC all you have to do is be patient. Learn one trick at a time and keep doing it until you could explain the process to somebody else if you had to!

The proverbial 'penny' always seems to drop at like, 2.30am in the morning when you're eyes are bleeding and the rizla have run out, so don't give up too early! If you share your studio (room, flat etc) with a wife or girlfriend, you'll have to get in the habit of saying ' I'll be there in a minute...' when you really mean 'leave me alone woman!' You may miss out on some good sex now and again, but there will be plenty of time for that when you're RICH?!
