Note variation slider is loose... questions on repair

Has anybody ver had theire note variation slider become really wobbly? I just got my MP 2000xl, and I can't tell whether or not the slider works because I don't know how to use it. The slider moves up and down (and side to side), but it doesn't feel like it's catching anything, you know what I mean? It feels like it's just, well...there. Is there anyway to repair it/check if its working easily? I also want to know: will I need to pay a gazillion dollars to get it repaired? (hopefully nothing in the 100s, i paid a REALLLY good price for it) or is it something simple--like tightening a few screws or some thing?

and another thing: I am a heavy, heavy sampler (everything I do is a sample, I don't have a keyboard yet), is that slider extremely important? Or would it be okay if I let it be for the time being until I figure out what's going on? (I was looking in the manual, and it signaled to me that manipulation of the samples has alot to do with that slider--i.e. filtering and things of that sort...very, very important to me with the way I sample.)

If I could get a response on that I'll be eternally grateful (not slave grateful

PS- You don't NEED the slider to do just about anything you could want or need to do, but it can create some really tight effects and also saves you TONS of time in the trim screen....among other places.

Before you try disassembling the poor thing, may you should try testing it first. www.mpc2000xl.com has info on the secret test screens, one of which includes the NV slider.
