Sampling Problem

Check it out, when I sample my keyboard or sound module I get this ugly humming sound. Even if I sample with my ASR10 I get the same sound but when I sample from my turntables everything is alright. What could it be? The cables? I called Guitar Center and they said it could be a lack of power. I'm like,WTF?? Is that possible? If anyone has had this problem before please help a brother out, thanks.

Are you sampling in mono or stereo? Check your levels also, make sure you aren't recording too loud.

I'm sampling from my keyboard to my mpc.

Maybe your electrical outlet on one or both you peices of gear are not grounded properly. I use a surge protector/noise suppresor with all my gear that my audio signal passes through. PC, keyboards, MPC. try not to run your audio cables close to your power cables and if you must do so then cross them, don't run then alongside each other. Use shielded audio cables if at all possible. If you can go digital also. All of this will cost money less runnin the cables across each other.

I had a similar problem sampling from my keyboard into the MPC for the first time. The solution should have been obvious but it wasn't!

My 'Record Gain' (the red knob) was on MAX! So there was a lot of noise even with no signal going into the MPC. This has the effect of amplifying the low-level noise present in the signal.

Always start with the record gain set to 'MIN' and use your keyboard (or module) to set the output level into the MPC. Only use the REC GAIN if the level is too low to get a good sample.

Worth checking!

yo if i got the record gain up past like the middle. am i supposed to hear a shhhhhhh noise? think its caleld white noise. kinda low in volume tho
