suggested memory cards for 2000xl-mcd

Im curious, is there a preferred memory card (or brand) that would work best with the new 2000xl-MCD? I am fairly computer illiterate and I have never used card storage before, but I assume that there can be differences in the performace between card to card. The MCD can use:

SmartMedia
MMC
SD
Memory Stick
and Compact Flash cards

what is out there that would be best to use? (regardless of cost)

I have the new MCD version of the XL, and use a 256mb Compact Flash.

the compact flash is the standard in relaible media formats.

and its what akai recomends, hence why they providided a free 32mb compact flash with the 2000-xl mcd's.

and yeah,

i use the 'crucial' brand.

can you guys do the forum a favor and find out what brand and model card drive is in there and whether it is ide or scsi - everyone speculates. keep in mind if you are new to this that opening it up does not hurt anything and you will have to do it to install memory anyway. thanks a lot!!! james

Im thinking i'd lean towards the SD mainly cause my laptop has a built in Secure Digital Drive on it. It seems there are also cheap adapters to go from SD to usb for use on other computers. im sure every type of memory has its benefits though. someone posted a good link to information on different media cards a while back, i'll have to see if i can find it.

Some cards are faster then others.

I just ordered a 1gb "ultra II" Compact Flash card for (an expensive) $90 shipped. This card is a Type I CF (confusing naming with the "ultra II") but the "ultra II" refers to it's speed at @10Mb/s writing 9Mb/s reading, or "66x" - I will surely post on here what I actually have happen on my XL, but to load up it's 32MB in even 30 secs would be sweet.

I just got an MPC for the first time.. very newbie.. like.. openned the box last nite.. and i think i messed up by trying to save files to the Sandisk 256mb CF card i bought today.. Did i ruin the card by not formatting it in the MPC first? Pls help? Thanx bros.. i'm so looking forward to getting my groove on w/this box.. computer inputting was not doing it for my beats.. but pretty good for arranging.. i may change my mind after a few weeks w/my new baby though

i formatted a 256mb Kodak SD Card right when i got it and everything worked fine. I just assumed it had to be formatted first because i thought thats what you had to do with zip disks too. I'd recommend just formatting it on the MPC, it should be fine after that.

thanks for the quick reply bro.. but unfortunately it's not recognizing it in the MPC just yet. I get a "not ready" message and not all the fields that are supposed to show up are there.. plus no "DO IT" button. i'm checking another post on formatting it to FAT from the computer now to see if that will work.. damn, damn, damn.. i got too excited LOL

Hey i did read another post and wanted to let yall know i got my problem fixed. I had to format the Compact Flash Disk in my PC as a FAT format. (not fat32). It is working fine now. I will prob. be using the mpc-editor program for those formats now.

The cells in CF cards die over time due to the card continuously being re-written.

Any magnetic media dies over time, zip disks also.
