Zip drives and Macs...

I have a MPC 2000xl with a built-in zip drive. I want to transfer .snd/.wav files between my MPC and Mac... using MPC Pgm maker.

Could I just buy a USB 100mb zip drive to plug into my MAC, chuck the files on a Zip and then just put the zip disk into my MPC...

just need some advice before I go out and buy something I don't need!

Yeah it will work. I have a G3 laptop and USB Zip drive. I transfer files via Zip from the MPC to the comp all the time. You just can't use MAC formatted ZIPs because the MPC won't read them. The MAC will read PC discs all day.

just make sure you have a seperate disk that you only use to copy files from your comp _> mpc and back.....

cause the disk can corrupt

you know.. a funny thing happened to me the other day.. i usually format my Zip 100 disks on my windows 98 PC, because i use wavelab to make, as well as edit my samples (because i like the CRT graphic interface much better than the MPCs little screen)

i can use the Zip disks just fine between the '98 PC and my MPC2000XL..
but i also have another PC downstairs that runs windows XP..
long story short.. i formated a ZIp 100 disk on my XP machine, and then tried to use this same Zip disk in my MPC, and the MPC completely ignored the disk...
i remedied the problem by re-formating the disk on my '98 machine....
has anyone else experienced anything like this??

i plan to get me a power mac G5 this year.. does anyone know if i will have this problem with OSX?

No. I don't have that problem with OSX. But, you should do a search here to get an idea of some of the problems associated with Zip disks, PCs/Macs and the MPC. And there are some problems that you should be aware of. You can search my name. I've responded to this issue before.

In the MPC editor you can do the XP zip format which will make the zip readable by the mpc and XP with no problems.

I love that program.
