Yo munk! Sorry, I can't provide you with any information. I'm also looking for a copy of the MPC operating system source, so if anyone has any information they should speakup. Also, has anyone tried to contact Akai with regards to releasing the OS source?

akai is never gonna relase the source code for the os, would windows release source code? nah. if someone made a better os for Akai gear they'd be screwed since there would be a cry for akai to redo all their os's to add stuff since the non-akai heads "easily" made mod;s to the os.

I don't know about that. I mean people still have to buy the gear and AKAI has provided a fairly stable OS thus far. I feel that an open source code would take the burden off of their hands and allow their customers even greater control over the gear they purchased. Of course, some even buggier OS's could be released resulting in malfunctions.. It would have to be strictly regulated but the thought is appealing (as long as it's shareware).
I would definitely lend my support to any organized effort to get the MPC source code released to registered users. It's quite well known that AKAI does not plan to make any future updates to their current OS 1.14 and perhaps there is a reason beside the lack of manpower to continue updating old technology. Maybe there is some sort of hardware limitation that we are not aware of preventing future updates? The fact is, AKAI is still selling MPCs and with the amount of people picking up used gear a company with AKAI's rep and expertise should have some ability to provide a remedy. There is a numerous amount of additions needed to satisfy the growing number of user needs. With an open OS, users can work together to find the answers to them (much like many of the production questions addressed on this site). To me, that's alot more manpower working in favor of AKAI instead of fussing over the companies obvious limitations.

Another note that one might also take into consideration… By releasing an open source OS, Even people considering a similar product might sway more to the one who’s reputation is solid but also one that has consistent updates regulated by the company and it’s users.
