Well, i thought I had done everything right. I had my midi out cable of motif to MPC midi in 1. I had a drum track and tehn I moved tracks and then went to a midi track and put it as device 1A. I had my motifs outputs into my mixer and my mixer outs to my MPC. Then I recorded and I heard nothin of motif when playing back. IM sure I jsut looke dsomething over but any help would be grateful. Thanks

Are you trying to sample something from your motif into your MPC? If not, you're tripping if your just trying to sequence/control the motif via your MPC. Do you have monitor speakers hooked up to your mixer? Dude, what is you doing?

You'll need to have your MPC midi out go to your motif in as well. This way your MPC will play back the sounds from your motif.

You don't want your mixer outs running into your MPC. You need to have your mixer outs going to some monitor speakers or just plug some headphones into your mixer's headphone jack. You can't monitor through your MPC. Well, unless you're sampling something through the mix in to your MPC.

I have an output to my speakers and output to my mpc so if I want to sampe froma turntalbe I can do that. Ill try the midi in of Motif too but I saw people do it with one midi cable. I dont wnat to sample the motif I just want to seqeunce the sounds with mpc. Like have a drum track and then add some keys on it and then when I play back actually have the keys playing. I cna hear everything that is not the problem but none of sounds I tired to reocrd from motif go during playbakc

If you saw people using one midi cable then they're probably running MPC out to Motif in. This way they control the motif strictly from the MPC. Meaning they're not physically playing anything from the Motif into the MPC's sequencer, but using the MPC's pads to trigger sounds from the motif. If you want to play the keys and record it into the MPC, you'll need to have the midi out of the motif into the midi in of the MPC, and the midi out of the MPC into the midi in of the motif. The midi out of the MPC talks to the motif and tells it what to do or playback what you just sent from the motif.

Also, you'll need to be in "Multi" mode on the motif. This way you can use multiple sounds on various midi channels. For example, you'll have bass on part 1/channel 1, piano on part2/channel2, and so on. On the MPC the channels will correspond as device 1a, 2a, and so on. Also make sure that when you go to sequence sounds from the motif that you change the the source to midi, i.e. S: MIDI.

Actually, I use the SONG MODE. Press the SONG button, then push the REC button. Then press the F2 button (Voice) and call up your sound for your first channel, then press 2 (on the Track select buttons, on the right, under your sound categories) put in your patch (PRE1:001 i.e.) and so on, etc. You can also use the Category search along with the track select buttons to get all your channels.

Make sure as you switch MOTIF tracks, you correspond by changing the MPC tracks, too. As you chang MOTIF channels, change MPC channels to match, i.e. 1A~1A, 2a~2a, etc.

A tip for remembering your patches for each channel is to enter it as the instrument name on the MPC screen (where it has the Program name) so you can call them up easy.
