Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By earwolf Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:34 am
hopefully...for UK based people at least...

bought an IDE card reader off ebay yesterday. 99 pence! it's brand new, arrived today and says ATAPI in the instructions, so fingers crossed i'll be good to go.

this weekend i will attempt to fit it to my friends 2000xl. i will take pix and document any issues and results as i know everyone's wig is well and truly flipped by this whole scenario.

the reader model is unkown - it has no branding or discernible model number whatsoever.

My ide/atapi reader just arrived. I will try to find the time 2night to install it. If everything works out fine I'll post a HOWTO in the faq thread on the newbie forum.

I guess so but whatever topic you add to the FAQ is only useful if people do read it instead of asking the same questions over and over again. Anyway fingers crossed shit works out fine.

Good luck to you all. I plan on getting a Card reader and believe me
I've been reading EVERYTHING you guys have posted and I've been reading EVERY topic and thread and checked 3k's website and everything. I want to upgrade my 2kxl along with homeboys as a going away present. He's a japanese producer heading back home to Japan and he has a studio 2kxl with 250 internal ZIP that I upgraded from floppy 2 years ago.

I wanna surpise him cause he's my roll dog. So good luck to you guys and please post up your findings/problems results and workarounds. thanks for your efforts..

^^
Lamp, u gotta good heart man

Like us all, the reader thing crosses my mind every now and then too. Dont know if I can be bothered to open up my MP AGAIN tho - Lol...I just put the 8 outs in the other day - What a treat! Flexibility like woah! Lol

Anyway yea, the card reader...I was thinking of keeping my zip in place jus to stay in touch with others who aint moved along yet or dont intend too,but perhaps use an external SCSI reader with my HD....Then eventually fade out my HD as the CF cards get bigger and a lil cheaper.

Thats one way of doing it I spose

Yeah, what about external SCSI CF readers?

These should work too right, since most of the internal ones being discussed are SCSI connected anyway?

That's it the card reader is installed and works like a charm. Took me all in all 20 minutes to install and test the thing. Writing the HOWTO to me even longer

The HOW TO can be found here:

from the auction:

"I will also include a CD which contains some drivers found on the Litronic website, I have not used the drivers and do not know what exactly is included. "

Which means these probably won't work with the MPC.....

plus $200 - $400 to ship them.
