MPC to PC recording

Yo, I got Cool Edit Pro 2 to do my sample editing and also to use as a multi-track recorder. Problem is, I have to press REC on Cool Edit and try to press PLAY/START on my MPC at the same time. Result: Tracks not lining up properly in Cool Edit's multi-track. Is there anyway to sync my PC and my MPC (via MIDI, maybe?) so when I start playing on my MPC, Cool Edit automatically starts recording? And if not with Cool Edit, then I also have Sonar 1.0, if that would work better/easier. Also, is there a reccommened sound card to use, or would any MIDI compatable sound card work. Holla atcha boy.

until u get a midi card or find a solution you could always do it the ghetto way. make a one bar sequence with like a drum hit at the very beginning & place that before everything you track out. line up that drum hit on all of your tracks & everything is in perfect order.

So if I get a MIDI sound card then I'll be able to do it? Tight. Where in Cool Edit can I set it up to sync (I dont have the manual)? I like your back-up ghetto method, tho, and am gonna try that. Thanks.

I would set it for 30 fps rather than 25 fps. 30 is more reliable and is also the standard for SMPTE, which Cool Edit actually receives and translates into MTC anyway.
Thats why you choose "SMPTE Slave enable" in the Cool Edit settings.

Also, to allow time for the machines to sync up, make sure you put 2-4 blank bars at the beginning of your song (in the MPC), which gives the machines timecodes time to synchronize without cutting off a fraction of a second of info from each of your tracks inside CoolEdit. Another good tip is to go into the options/settings of Cool Edit where it says SMPTE OFFSET, and set it for 5 seconds---this means that Cool Edit waits 5 seconds after receiving MTC before it actually starts recording----same effect as putting the blank bars at the beginning, allows time for the machines to "talk" before the recording begins, thus fixing latency and drift problems.

I couldn't find the "above Cool Edit/ Adobe Audition MIDI settings" he was referring to, but do I need to get the SMPTE upgrade to my MPC or just use a MIDI cable and Cool Edit will translate the MIDI to SMPTE? I'm confused about this one. Holla back

MPC2kxl MIDI settings are as follows (generate MTC):
Shift + 9
MIDI SYNC OUT (A)
Frame Rate 25 (for CEP/AA)
Send MMC ON

CEP/AA MIDI settings are as follows (trigger from MTC):
F6 – Midi trigger enable
F7 – SMTPE Slave enbable

I guess so.... I didnt realize what that post was referring to cause I dont know what I'm doing with cool edit, yet. So to answer my question, all I need is a MIDI sound card, then set Cool Edit as the SMPTE slave and I'll be able to sync it up? Easy. Good looking out, fellas.

Just for the record, You need a soundcard with a midi interface built in or a seperate midi interface will do along side a soundcard. Dont want you going into the shops asking for a "midi soundcard" - Sounds a little suspect - lol

Yo, I really appreciate all the feedback, fellas, for real. I'm about to peep out that vid in a sec, just wanted to say good looking out to everyone. One more thing tho...I was peepin out some audigy sound cards and I noticed that it looked like the MIDI's on the card were a diff't type (smaller) that the ones on my 2000xl. Do I just use an adapter/cable or are there sound cards (worth buying) that use the same ones as my MPC?
