2 types of MIDI?

I've been peeping out some sound cards lately and I noticed it seems that the sound cards have a different and smaller MIDIs than my 2000xl. Can I just use an adapter or are ther sound cards with the same sized MIDIs as my MPC? Holla back!

Never knew that their were two sized midi ports like that.

On computers they have a joystick port, gamers use that for ...joysticks.

But the port can also send and receive MIDI information, so there is a converter/adapter that allows it to do that.

My soundcard has the small ports, the joystick ones, but it also came with that adapter thing so I can use it for MIDI.

Actually you should be looking at USB MIDI interfaces, that's your best bet for future use with newer versions of Mac O.S. and whatever Windows comes up with.
The joystick adapter usually can be found in most music stores for about $20 if you really want to get one.
Also some interfaces have what looks like a serial connector but is really a priprietary connector that uses a special cable not the jpystick connector.

I actually use 2 of these between my Audigy interface on PC and my Triton/MPC. It works fine.

I only use my PC to record and mix tracks. I just want to be able to sync my MPC with my PC via an Audigy sound card. It's MIDIs are little. My MPC's MIDIs are big. Anyway...

Yo Lamp, you got your PC as the master and the MPC and Triton are the slaves?

It's not big MIDI and little MIDI.
It's just a serial port that can emulate and transmit MIDI data.
You don't even have to have a soundcard, you can do the same thing if your computer has a serial port.
That's what all the old Macs and the MOTU interfaces used before they added USB.
If you look at the back of something like the Yamaha 01v you will see it has both the 5-pin DIN connectors and the serial connectors.
You can select to use either or both.
