boot disc error..help

I put my boot disc in consisting of the mpc.sys file and the exe file and it looks to boot up and then reads boot disc error or something to that effect..So being the computer genuis that i am, i formatted another disc and downloaded the operating system again unzip the files and copy them over to my disc drive..same problem..When i rebooted the mpc it worked oddly enough but not anymore....i have a 2000 classic..Anyone has had this happen? i cant work on anything

is it set up to read from the floppy drive? I suck at this stuff, but possibly this was just overlooked...
