tracking down to pro tools

I want to track my beats on my 2000XL down to Pro Tools. I tried synching it but I noticed it was off beat. On my ASR, it would allow me to 4 beat "tick" bar before the song played which allowed the beat to start synched up. However, I don't think you can do this on the MPC, can you? How do you guys synch it up correctly? Is there a better way than just adding one blank bar in the beginning of the song? Thanks for your help!

I checked the link above. Okay config., but MIDI is not the best. Do you have the SMPTE generator? SMPTE from my experience has been the best for syncing the MPC using my 001. If so just stripe a track with SMPTE through the 001. When you feed that signal back to the MPC, it locks up flawless. Be sure to leave a bar or two of 'catch up' space before the actual beat starts so there's no 90's style SMPTE 'jump in' nonsense.

If no SMPTE is present, just record the MPC sections into Protools and edit the stuff in by hand. Since the Protools grid is as accurate as the MPC sequencer it will loop properly. Give raw editing a shot for real. It's the easiest way. I do the same thing with my MPC beats, no syncing or anything. Trust your Protools editing skills!

I been doing some hardcore multitracking from my mpc into my 002 rack and all I use is a 8 channel snake and a midi cable. I dont know about any SMPTE business, its not a necessity. Are you having some sync trouble tombstone ?

Naw not really, I just don't like MIDI for syncing. Most cats don't know, but MIDI doesn't really hold a solid BPM. Like if you working with a tempo of 92, MIDI will flucuate from say 91.9 to 92.1 in very small increments. Not noticable to the ear, but definitely not locked properly.

SMPTE on the other hand is always rock solid. I had a bad experience some years back where songs I recorded to ADAT were not able to be transferred to a DAW (Logic) because the MIDI sync tone I used flucuated too much. It also will make computers crash sometimes from the inconsistency. Anyway, syncing is not necessary there is nothing from the MPC sequencer worth preserving on a beat transfer. Sh** someone even told me they got quantized tempo maps that emulate most samplers ever made so this concept of 'MPC feel' from the sequencer is nonsense IMO.
