is there a way to section off your zip so that you dont have to trawl through endless shiz looking for that special KICK?

u gotta make folders, load your zip choose new folder, name it and save stuff in it. 1

Yes, you can partition it
IN the LOAD or SAVE screen, hit FORMAT and in the top right it will say
Parts: A-A
change this to how ever many parts you want (A-C is 3 partitions for example)
Remember that formating will wipe your disk.
This works on both MPC2000 and the XL - only the XL allows folders.
