SCSI and Flash Rom nitemare

I recently purchased an MPC2000XL that Doesn't take Floppy disk and as I have found out I cannot plug in a SCSI cable for a CD Rom or Zip drive because they are albeit obselete now. Does anyone know if the manufacturers decided to change from a Floppy to Flash Rom on the front and still keep an SCSI (and not a USB port) on the back for some sick joke? It seems they are trying to move forward (Flash Rom) with technology but they also want to stay in the past (SCSI).

I would be grateful for any useful help you can give me (I have checked out some internet sights but it seems everyone has either the facility to use floppy disk, which I don't or they already have a SCSI cable, which I can't seem to find) as all I wanna do right now is send it right back for a refund. I didn't think it was gonna be this difficult to make some beats!!!!

PS - I used the 'search' function to try and find what I was looking for on this sight but it keeps kicking me out every time I go back a step and I gotta start on page 1 all the time. After getting to page 10 it started to suck!!!

Do you have an d2kxl with a built in flash drive ?
Or did the floppy drive break down ?

Sorry but I don't understand what exactly your question or problem is. Please clarify and I'll try to give a useful anwer.

At the front where you load your Floppy disk I have 2 slots. One for Flash Rom and I'm not quite sure what the other slot is (I'm actually in work right now but when I get home later I can elaborate a bit).
Basically I need to know why make a sampler and have an outdated SCSI port on the back? Most shops don't stock them these days so why sell them? On top of not being able to plug in an external CD-Rom or Zip drive I can't load up any Floppy disks on the front because there is no compatability.
I have to use eiter Flash Rom or some other format which I have never seen b4. I'm not greatly experienced, in fact hardly with samplers and after viewing a few on the net (in shops) I was under the impression I could use Floppy disks straight in the front of the unit but on my MPC2000XL it has these '2 slots'. I need easy, accessable storage and I have heard that Flash Roms are like 50x more expensive than CD-Rom and this is a major problem for me as my budget is low.

you can find plenty of scsi zip drive on ebay. I would personally buy a compact flash card. If you want i have an extra internal zip drive, and we can swap drives(your two slot drive). But i tell you that many people on here would kill to have the flash drive for many reasons. do some research and you will end up buying a flash card.

Do you actually know what compact flash card is?? You seem to be under the impression that the media for the drive will cost you a few hundred?? I think you need to go and find more information about memory cards , as it seems you don't know much - espcially considering you want to use a floppy?!

Anyway flash cards are not that expensive depending on how much memory you want. You can buy a range of sizes - 8mb - 1000mb.
And a small capacity card should cost you the equivelant of $20 or less.

You might even have a card if you have a digital camera .

Which would you choose a floppy with a capacity of 1.4mb and or a card with a capacity of 1000mb ? Which do you think is more convenient?

And also - Flash rom is a completely different thing than a memory card. Flash rom does not have anything to do with the slots at the front of the drive. You manual should explain all essential details about memory cards and flash rom.

I'm fine sampling loops through audio but I want some good quality drum kits and alot of websites I have found only supply on CD-Rom, Zip or the dreaded 'Floppy'. I am keen to use CF, just need to know that it is readily available and that its not gonna cost me bare cash!!!

Just get an external usb card reader to connect to a computer. That way you can transfer the samples from the cdrom to the flash card. It's also the best way to keep backups of the beats you make on your MPC.

no disrespect, but this is a very expensive hobby/carreeer! So for now i sugggest you use the drums that came with the mpc until you get some money saved. you can always layer drums and create your own drum kits.
