Partition Disks - Good Idea or no?

Ok I have an MPC 2000 (classic version) with a 250MB SCSI Zip
drive. I orderd some sounds & was trying to save them onto my Zip disk.
Problem I am having is trying to get all of the sounds on one Zip. After I
use about 50MB of space, I get an error mesaage saying that there is not
enough space on the disk when there is about 200MB left. How do you guys get around this when creating your soundsets on Zip? I've read quite a few posts on this (partitions) but I still don't know if it's a good idea to partition them since I usually pull my .wav sounds from my PC via an external USB Drive onto my external Zip drive on my MPC. F*** why couldn't they just put a damn USB port on there! Somebody help!

Got the same problem, duke. I asked that question about two weeks ago and they told me I may need to partition them. That's a lot of wasted unused space, ain't it?

Yup, In addition to all the other drama you have to endure with that stupid external ZIP. Why couldn't they just add a USB port on the back of the machine like my Triton has & all you have to do is pop in a 1GB jump drive & sleep well at night...I just spent all night transferring all my .wavs to the zip too & I have a feeling I'm gonna have to format & partition the disk now...

You should go ahead and create multiple partitions. Since you have a zip250, just create five 50MB partitions. It's easier to manage your stuff when you do it that way, cuz you can use one partition per project.

Your PC will only be able to read the first MPC partition, unless you are running Linux..... so if you want to back and forth from the PC don't partition the zip.

My suggestion would be to get 2 zips, partition 1 on the mpc, and use the other for transfering only.

That method is cool, but, you're still going to run into the same problem with storage, unless you create multiple partitions. Partition one ZIP disk on ya MPC and use a second ZIP disk for transfers. When partition A fills up on the MPC's ZIP disk, you can start using partition B, C, etc.

Cool thanks guys! I think i'll try that. One question though: How do I separate them into 50MB partitions? I recall seeing the partition screen and it shows A:A, A:B,AZ, etc...(I'm not in front of my MPC so I'm trying to remember what it looks like) But I'm guessing with each partition selection it shows the size of the partition...Correct?
