While looking through old posts before ordering my reader I saw some people upgraded to 1.20 before installing their card readers, and some said it worked faultlessly with 1.14, the only difference being that 1.20 lets you use 1gb cards without having to partition them .
I just wanted to do this poll to see what people are currently doing and whether or not you've had any problems .

I run version 1.20, but b4 I installed dit I made sure that I had a copy of the 1.14 on my harddisk, just to be on the safe side. I did indeed upgrade b4 I installed the card reader and everything works flawless (knock on wood).

Because I don't have any way of transfering files from PC to MPC, if I installed the card reader with 1.14, and found I had issues, would I just be able to take the card reader out, reinstall the Zip drive and load 1.14 back up again without a problem?

I think that is indeed the way to go, especially if you don't have any external drive you can connect to the MPC to keep a copy of the os. Installing the card reader without upgrading the os will IMO not cause any trouble just make sure you set the correct jumper settings to set it to master, it is a **** when you have to reopen the MPC just because you forgot to set the correct jumper setting. My synchrotech came with the jumpers already set to MASTER but you always have to doublecheck of course. And make sure you touch some earthed metal b4 opening the mpc and get a really big pillow to put it on when you turn it upside down you just dont want to break the slider or the data wheel. And get a little cup ready to put all the screws in.

Good luck, and take your time, a rushed job is more likely to cause damage.

Same thing here. I installed 1.20 before I installed the card reader, but I had an external SCSI zip drive with 1.14 on it to use just in case. Turns out that 1.20 worked just fine.
