MPC EDITOR PROBLEMS

This is the problem I am having........I am chopping drum loops in Recyle and then I am opening up the APK file in MPC Editor. Once I do that I am exporting programs and samples into a designated folder. Then I take that folder and burn it to a CD using Nero. Once that is complete I insert the CD into my scsi CD rom drive connected to my MPC 2000xl......Heres where I am having the problem. When I go to load the program file from the CD, it starts out as if it's loading the program but then it starts to give me the message "Can't find file" I click on skip and then it does this again, and again until it is complete. Then when I try to play the sounds on the MPC they are not there. Under my program window on my MPC the name of the program shows up under drum one but no sounds are there on the pads...The really strange thing is that if I load the wave files individually from that same folder on that same CD they load to the pad and I can play it..........."what the hell?"Confused lol

I did my homework before I posted this by doing a search of this forum and I couldn't find an answer for this problem. I even e-mailed and sent a PM to MPC 3000 as recommended to others that are having problems with MPC editor, but he has not responded to me yet. It's only been a couple of days but I really need to fix this problem ASAP

How long are your file names for each sound? If the file name exceeds 8 letters the mpc will not recognise it. Keep your file names short and there shouldn't be a problem. I can't think of any other possibilities .

Easy way to do it is:
After you finish choppin sh*t up in Recycle create a folder and save those chopped up wav's in it as the .apk
Then load that .apk from that folder into MPCeditor, once it loads just do a "save program as" into that same folder, make sure you select 2000xl as format.
(don't worry about trying to export the program and samples)
Then burn a copy of that folder that has the .apk, .wav and .pgm files in it to the CDR and load that in the MPC.
Doing it this way means everything it needs and will look for will be in one location.

First off thank you both for your input. I tried both of your suggestions and neither made it work...........I get the exact same problem............

check how you are burning the CD..... you might be burning a format that the MPC can't read.

Thanks Dcypher, but that's not it. The MPC reads the disk fine. It sees all the files and will actually allow me to load individual waves to a pad. The files names are only 5 characters and I have tried both saving the program in MPC editor as well as exporting the program. I am really stumped on this one. I really need it to work because I have like 5 CD's of nothing but drum loops that I want to chop and turn into programz for my 2000xl.

Any other suggestions?

Is very informative and I am sure he can help. He has children and he is a stay at home dad I believe. He will contact you, now have you tried using other discs? Other than the brand you are using and how is your ISO configured?

-Did you save the .pgm to the same folder that the original .apk and wav files were in and then copy that folder?
-What is your selection when you go into Nero's new Complilation ?
It should be ISO, also what ISO format are you using Mode 1 or Mode 2?
-What version of MPCeditor are you using the current version is V3.0.38?
-try using the auto-assign feature on the folder that has the .apk file in it then do an export to a new folder.
-you are using CDR's not CDRW's right?
-try using a ZIP drive or another CDRom drive to see if it does the same thing.
- look at the .wav files on the CD on the MPC to see if the names look the same as they do when you look at them on the computer, make sure that the name you gave them aren't similar enough that the computer is trunacating them slightly and assuming they are the same.
In other words the name the program is looking for is not the same as the name you see. That would explain why you can load them manually but the program file can't.

I did save the pgm file in the same folder as the apk file and the wave files and burned that folder to the cd.

-my settings in Nero are Data mode 1, ISO 9660, disk at once, Max of 11 characters.

-Im using MPC editor version 3.0.38

-The names of the Waves are the same on the MPC as they are on the computer, exactly the same and they are only 5 characters.

-I having tried using the auto-assign feature on the folder that has the .apk file in it then do an export to a new folder. I will try that when I get back to the studio

-I am using CDR and not CDRW's

-I havent tried using a ZIP drive or another CDRom drive to see if it does the same thing. will try that also, but I just got my CDRom drive from www.scsi4samplers.com (GREAT PRODUCTS by the way)

Nah, El I told him to try that because when he exported .pgm and samples, the .pgm couldn't find the .wav when it tried to load.
That way the original .wav files would go in their entirity.

I would suggest that once the program has been saved to a local folder, reopen the program in the MPCeditor and then resave. If that still fails, try re-opening and re-exporting the program and samples to a separate directory and use that.

This should remove any issues that the Recycle import may be generating.

Why not try it with a zip or even floppies, burning CD"s seems kinda excesive.

Well it is getting kind of excessive now that I have made about 20 coasters. The reason I want it on CD is because I have a large volume of loops that I want to chop into several programs, and I want to burn them all on to one ore 2 CD's. I am acutally trying to get away from using Zip Disk. A CD has more than 7 times the space of a zip disk and they are a lot less expensive. I used to save my programs to Zips until I brought a combo CD-rom/9gig hard drive from Jim @ scsi4samplers.com Never plan to ever use another Zip now.......

But I will try the Zip just for the sake of seeing if it works.
