This is so stupid that it's pissing me off. I can't get the power cable or the other ribbon cable out of my zip drive. I've never done this before but I know it's not meant to be this hard! And in the end, I wasn't being gentle... the **** thing just didn't let go. I got it to loosen up a bit, but thats all.

I don't know, MAYBE its me, but seeing as this XL was one of the newer ones that came with the 100mb zip installed, I though that Akai might have stuck them in there somehow...?

I took these pics so you guys could tell me if the power connector and ribbon connector were the normal type.

With the conector on the ribbon cable, its two pieces of plastic with the ribbon cable squashed inbetween. I think I could pull the end off, leaving the wires bare, but how do I take the whole thing out? That is, the bit that over the pins on the back of the zip drive...?

Any help is appreciated more than you think !

PS. Sorry for the big pics, but I wanted you guys to get a good look.

Sometimes it is just really hard to get those things out! Try a flat screwdriver and carefully pry it out. Don't be too scared to put a bit of force into it. There is not alot you can do but pull .

Is there a place where I can find out more info on the card reader? Kinda been interested in installing one but I don't know which card readers are compatible. Any help is appreciated.

DO a simple search there is plenty of stuff in this forum about it(too much actually)

Ran a couple searches on here and didn't seem to come across any discrete card reader model that people were using. Thats why I initially posted. It seemed more of a buy a card reader and try type expirement. I'll keep looking though. I found a FAQ site off google which had some good info. A lot of the card readers seemed pretty old. I guess I'll have to try one of them though. Thanks for the reply.

There are a gazillion of threads on the card readers that contain links to inet shops that sell card readers, how to's and what not.
Hint: read this post very carefully

Also check my first signature link. There's TONS of info, I don't see how you've never ran across any of the millions of CF reader threads around this joint.

"Also check my first signature link"

Many of us may never see it. I, for one, get tired of the crappy, oversized, cookied, and in some cases, spyware/malware entrapping images in the signature lines. For this, I just turn off sigs in the preferences. Avatars are turned off also. No more ugly mugs.
