MPC 2000 XL Thin sound issues

Now I must admit it´s noticeable, 2000xl sounds hell of a lot thinner than my ASR10.
I just made a beat with the XL only acting as a midi sequencer and the ASR10R did all the sampling, chopping, filtering and effects.
Damn, if it only weren´t such a hassle to get everything runnin.
Why cant Akai make a box with sounds this good and is as fast and easy to use as the 2kxl?
Now, someone is gonna say get the MPC4000, but from what I´ve heard the effects on the 4000 suck (once again)...

Who´s using the XL mainly as a sequencer and a rack sampler for everything else?
How is it working out for you?
Has anyone switched from a combo setup (mpc+rack) to say MPC3000 or MPC4000 and been happy with it?
bottom line:
I love to fastness of the mpc2000xl, but hate the crappy sound.

I used an ASR-10 and MPC 1000 and switched to a 4k and I have never looked back. The 4k filters are compareable and mabey even better than the ASR-10 due to the configurations and filter types, I can always get what I want out of them. Next the effects don't cut the mustard. The ASR wins hands down, thats why I'm exploring other options for the effects that I like. Next ease of use. no more having to save settings on 3 machines, I can have my samples, sequeces and multi's saved on 1 machine. I machine to turn on and get started. MPC 4k sample editing options you can do all types of editing to your sample inside the 4k lot of options there. The sound. You won't get that ASR sound that you can feel when you sample into it, but the sound out of the 4k won't dissapoint you either. I haven't looked back since I got a 4k you should look into it.

I´ll take my time with the ASR and get to know it well.
I guess it´s best to show some effort in order to get a quality sound...
if speed and ease of use is so important i could get a zoom sampletrak or SP303 and just throw bunch of shit together and it would end up sounding really low budget... yeah, it´s time to step this game up

I'm at peace with the MPC2k. All that EQ, compression and EFX junk can be done when mixing the seperate tracks in Pro Tools for me. I don't find the 2k pushing out a thin sound but a nice crisp thick sound for my pleasure. After a beat is complete and ready to be recorded I just drop each pad to be mixed, apply effects, eq, etc for the final lay out in Pro Tools. To me it should not be too calmplex for the MPC to be the major authority in all those elements. But to each is own.

I used the asr-10 for 4 years, 2000xl for 2 years. Using both of them togher really makes an amazing combo. Fast workflow, deep sample editing, and good sound. They are like a yin/yang when used together.

That said, I bought a mpc 4000 and know it very well after about 3 weeks. No way can the 4000 replace the asr-10. Im selling my 2000xl, and was planning to sell the asr-10. but im probably going to stay sampling on the asr10.

The 4K is amazing, its a beast. Its like a souped up asr10, not like a souped up mpc2000. It sounds 100x better then the 2000xl which sounds thin compared to the 4k. But I think i mjust so used to sampling on the asr-10, and when it comes to samples, the asr10 sounds better.

I think im pretty knowledgable on all 3 pieces of gear now, if you have any questions let me know.

yeah the very last thing i want on my sampler is some built in eq curves which emphasise or attenuate certain freqs- wanna be able to do that myself...

Yea I feel you on that. I'm using drum sounds from a Triton with my MPC and it sounds much better. But I have made plenty beats with MPC sounds alone. Don't forget about layering (I do that regardless, even w/ the Triton). And EQ'ing is a neccessity. Nothing is ever perfect out of the box. The Triton also has nice effects - reverbs are messin' with the ones on my Lexicon MPX1.

I've used the asr 10 and yeah it's by far fat in sound, I would use asr 10 for sampling my sounds through the asr 10 as the final mix. and stick with
the sequencing on the 2000XL. sad to say I sold my asr 10 for a 2000XL,and I'm glad I did,because you can always faten you sounds at the
end of your mix. keep in mind yeah you need the equipment to compete,
but it's the person that's behind the board. T"
