Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By GooDgUyThaTgUy Fri Jun 10, 2005 7:25 pm
I just plugged in a 2000XL I bought from eBay, everything seemed ok, buttons are a little loose (but still work), LCD screen works (1 thin line going down it). I bought it from a Powerseller with great seller ratings. On the advertisment for the item he said it was in perfect working order. The loose buttons and LCD dont bother me, however the sampler doesnt seem to work. Maybe it's something I'm doing wrong? I plugged the power cord in, plugged in the 2 audio cords and the other end of the cord into a cd discman, went to Sample mode and its not picking up any audio. The L/R bars stay still while playing songs on the discman. Then I tried it with a record player, plugged in the 2 audio cords that run strait out from the record player into the MPC, put on a record and played it in Sample mode and its still not picking up any of the audio. I changed the sample settings around (from Monos to Stereo, changed the length of the sample, moved the threshold around and reset peak and when I change analog to digital I can hear crackles in my headphones but no audio). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong, or if the MPC is just broken? I sent a email to the seller I bought it from a few minutes ago to see what he wants to do, but I want to make sure its the machine and not just me. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

which audio plugs did you plug in? you plugged your discman into the RECORD IN plug on your mpc right? thats where it needs to be......turn your REC volume knob up...make sure the volume is up on the discman. thats all i can think of...

The record player has 2 cords coming out of it, one is the power plug the other is what looks like a audio/video plug, it has a red plug and white plug branching off the cord. Theres only one place in the MPC these plugs will go, on the bottom left side on the back of the MPC, in the red and white slots. Those slots are labeled DIGITAL IN/OUT. Thats what I have the record player plugged into. The RECORD IN/OUT slots look like theyre for 1/8 plugs.

well for a start it dont go in DIGITAL IN, buy some 1/4 plugs (MONO) and use those, u know the ones larger than head phones and plug them in RECORD IN. Also u cant plug a turntable direct to a 2000XL, u need a preamp or a dj mixer. then use the output of the mixer ro plug into the MPC.

I think you need to get some 1/4 inch adaptors for the cables coming off the turntable. These adaptors will fit the larger slots on the back of the MPC. Most turntables us RCA cables which will not plug into the back of the MPC. These can be found a radio shack for $2.

Also make sure you are sampling "analog" in the sample screen.

OK, what about using the Discman to sample from CDs?

you still need the adapters unless the cd player has a digital out. and then you will need a digital audio cable.

man if you want to plug your discman into the back of your mpc you need a

1/8" to 1/4" cable.

thats the BIG plug to SMALL plug cable. 1/4" is the picture of the big plug there. 1/8" is a normal plug similar to whats on most headphones

I used to use my cousins MPC alot and I remember the discman had a red/white cord coming out and that plugged right into DIGITAL IN/OUT. The discman Im using now has a Line Out Slot and the Headphone slot. I need to find a discman that has a Digital Out slot not just a Line Out slot to sample from? And for the record player, I need to plug the red/white plugs coming from the player into a DJ Mixer and than from the mixer I plug 2 1/4 plugs into the MPCs Record In/Out?

aight what size is the line out on the discman?

the headphone jack can be used....im sure its the 1/8" size......

sorry i got it mixed up i thought you were using a regular walkman cd player......

whatever size these plugs are on the discman you need a cable that is that size and on the other end has to be 1/4" so it will fit into the mpc's RECORD IN

No, that Discman will work.... get a cable from the electronic store that will be stereo "1/8 stereo plug on one end, and also on the other end "1/4 inch that splits into left and right like this one so it can go from the Discman Headphone or the Line In of the Discman. to the MPC's Record IN Left and Right Side ....Image

Now u got the right idea on the Record Player into the mixer, but also make sure u have two lines coming out of the mixers Main right and left outputs into the MPC's Record IN Left and Right sides

The Discman has two 1/8" slots, one is Line Out the other is for Headphones. The plug I have has one 1/8" plug on one side, the other side of the cord has 2 plugs, one white, one red like this cord minus the yellow plug...

...so I'm assuming I need to go to radioshack, buy 1/4" plug adapters for the red plug and the white plug so I can fit them into record in/out. Or get a discman with Digital Out so I dont need the 1/4" plug adapters and can just plug the red and white plugs into Digital In/Out. Is that about right?

No, that Discman will work.... get a cable from the electronic store that will be stereo "1/8 stereo plug on one end, and also on the other end "1/4 inch that splits into left and right like this one except a lil longer so it can go to the MPC comfortably from a nice close distance....Image

Ok excellent, and I can find that at like Radioshack or a similar store?

noooo forget that rca plug...which is what the red and white plugs are (RCA)......

if the discman has an 1/8" plug, you need the kind of cable 4dahaterz listed.

1/8" to 1/4" plug
