new user- question about pitch of the sound

hello I still can't find a joy using my mpc. I need to know how can I do a melody- for example- I have one sample of bass- I would like to have this bass also higher or lower. Just to play a melody like on the piano- I don't know if u understand. I need bass higher or lower- do I have to each time sample next bass?? or can I play different melody from one sample- maybe using midi will help me?
