i was thinkin of trading my 1k for the new 2kxl, wat do u guys rekon? i wanna hear from people who have already done it and people who have unbiased views towards both

oh well, i own both and all i can say is the 2000XL has a more crunchy punchy sound to it. the 1000 is little weaker but u can tweak in that one to make it better so it can stand up against it. Plus it had way more features as standard.

Yeah, I don't know WHY on God's green earth people wanna trade UP to a 2k from a 1k. WTF is that about anyway? The punchy sound, I'm sure you can tweak and get it right. Way more features on 1k. I think people are just gassed on hype. They are both good machines though.

get em both. i'd love a junior mpc to bang around on and have in my backpack. but i love the rugged'ness and sturdy feel of the 2000xl that sits next to my throne @ home.

i wouldnt say there are more features on one or the other. i recently got an XL, ive been using a 1k.

one of em is gonna get sold in a few weeks, it's a really difficult choice. theyre pretty much dead even, IMHO. on the surface there are more features to the XL but the 1k has a few really important things that the XL doesnt so it really evens out.

i am finding the sound of the 2 machines is like night and day though. the 1k is really clean, very heavy and clear in the bass (usually a good thing) and very clean in the highs, although just a bit dark.

the XL is more mellow, it'll make a track that sits in the mix better and leaves the front of the mix for the vocals. it's a little less heavy with the bass (it leaves just enough low end though so it's not a bad thing) and it's not clearer than the 1k with the treble, just kinda different.

it's almost like the XL sounds like a brand new, freshly opened cassette tape. or maybe like a really expensive 4 track cassette recorder (if such things existed), and the 1k sounds like a mid priced DAW. both kinda sound like butt comapred to 2" tape, vinyl or really fancy digital.

and i have no freakin clue why so many people told me there is so sonic differnce between these 2 machines. these people must be fuc king deaf for real

also, i gotta admit, the 1k is a lot faster to move around on. but the other side of that is, you cant do soooo many things that you can do on the XL

Yeah i hear you , though u must remember, it all depends on your workflow, and what is best for u on how u work. for example when i used to use my xl alot i barely ever used things like 16levels or timestretch, and that took long like hell to do. my only perk was reverse, but thats kool cuz i like to EQ and mess about with my samples on the pc anyway, so transfering of files was always a a scary exoerience with COD and other stuff going on. so for MY workflow the 1K was actually a good choice because i can continue just the same with more options to me, though i hardly use em, eg EQ, compressor etc.

well if i get a 2kxl the money would come from selling the 1k, ofcourse if i could afford to have both i wouldnt have even asked the question, i just like the 2kxls look and feel, the new one now has flash memory which is cool and the pads look so much nicer then the 1ks eraser style pads, i do have a computer to do my editing but id rather use the timestretch on the mpc, the 1k is cool.....but its not cool enough......
i dont know how much differernt they gonna sound, if they have the same ad da converters then they shouldnt sound too different, or maybe its the internal circtuitry within both that gives each one its own distict character....

Other differences to add to list:
xl has 10 outs with 8 out expansion. 1k has 6 outs no expansion.
XL has overpriced ROM option.
XL effects and SMPTE expansion
MFC42 connects right to xl but still can be used with 1k, MFC42 is my next purchase!
1k has no velosity on pads but can work around if really need be.

I can not address sound difference as I've only played with 1k a few times. I was going through the same debate as you wheather to buy 1k or spend another G and get 2kxl. I would say if you are not going to use any of the extra features of xl stick to 1k. I went with XL but waiting to get a 1k cheap, like less than 4 bills.

well i definantly want to use timestretch on my mpc cos all the programs i have on my mac are shyt they really mess up the audio when u timestretch by more then + - 5 %. how good is the timestretch on the 2kxl? isit audible?
and also the 1k does have velocity sensitive pads!

That is likely going to happen no matter what timestretch method is used. Timestretch algorithms are more art than science.
