can i turn off the 16 levels while recording?

im buying an xl and my boy has a regular 2000 and he says he didnt like the xl cuz u cant turn off the 16 levels while recording. he said u gotta stop the XL and then turn the 16 levels off whereas the 2000 you can turn off the 16 levels while recording. this true??

I can't remember if this is true or not...... but it's such a minor thing that it shouldn't matter..... It takes like 2 seconds to stop recording, turn off 16 levels, and then record again.

but i can imagine being in a groove and not want to stop recording just to turn off the 16 levels.

Sometimes i'm so much in a groove while recording, that i don't want to press any pads to trigger the samples.. Is there a way around this, or should i get another mpc?

you can turn the 16levels off, not by pressing the 16levels button, but by pressing the trackmute button. you have to press it twice to play with the samples, otherwise you'r just in the trackmute screen...
