remotly contoling mpc Playback, punch in etc?

Hi,
Please could somebody give me a few pointers on the connecting up/relative setings on the MPC200XL to enable remote control of the main playback controls..

I currently use a octapad just to trigger of individual samples on the MPC. I would like to able to activate play>sequenences by hitting a pad. I've been through the manual looking at the footswitch setup, it seems like this is the area to set up the respective MIDI numbers/notes. I've tried with no sucess. If anybody uses a keyboard or any other external MIDI device to control these features I would really apprechiate an explaination of how to set it up.

I don't know much 'bout the Octapad... can you assign CC#'s to the pads?... or does it have assignable knobs or sliders?

If you can assign CC#'s to it... try setting them to CC#16 and 17 those are general purpose. Then go to the Midi switch screen on the MP and assign Cntrl: to 16 and another to 17 and set them to start and stop respectively...
