Zip Problems

Im using 250mb zip disks with my MPC.....these zips hold all my drums sounds in them....i recently tried to load my sounds up in the MPC and it told me that I had an error message or something to that extent....the bottom line.....i couldn't load any of my sounds up....in any one of my zip disks...i have about 8 or 9......i was in a very bad situation so I need to know what happen and how can I avoid this problem in the future...i do know that if you place zip disk on or near the speaker you can totally erase all info that is stored on the zip....that i know....but by me simply keeping all my disk in a bag and taking them out only to load them up in the MPC and for them to not work is a mystery to me...ALL MY SOUNDS ARE LOST DUDES........what did i do wrong....someone help....

did you try to read the zip disks with another drive. one connected to your pc for example ? It could very well be that your zip drive died on you. That happened to me, i installed a card reader copied the contents of the zip disks on a cf card and never looked back.

Did you try putting the Zip disk in your computer?

No...i do all my sequencing on the MPC....i do not have my zip drives connected to my computer....just to the MPC for loading my sound files and my song files when I save them to diskette....and they are fairly new zips....why and how would they die on me?

Go out and get a back up drive for your comp ASAP. Always have back ups of your files, if not you are asking for problems.

Zip drives are Sh!ty, that's why they die. Everyone I know that has used ZIPs for any extended period of time has had at least one drive or disc die for no reason.

so is there any particular resason this happens..and what can i do to avoid this in the near future.......??

No there is no clear reason why it happens, it happened to me with a drive that was less than a year old. But I heard from some tech peeps that the 250 mb drives that come in the mpc2kxl sometimes have this nasty tendency to die prematurely on you. A zip drive has moving parts like the motor an the heads to read/write the disk in my case the drive startde reading faults and eventually throwing nasty errors and blocking my mpc and in the end it basically died, the heads locked up and I could no longer even insert a zipdisk.

f reader and that is just working fine for me a 1gb card is like a little silent harddisk built in my MPC. Sjeesj I start sounding like a sales guy...

Actually i am talking about my zip disc....alll my info on those are erased....the zip drive is perfectly fine....it's the disks that im concererned with!!

yes zip are dodgy.. full stop. too many moving parts... does yours make a clicky sound.. if so throw it out and look into installing a card reader. none of my zips read in pc.

This is stating the obvious ; but did you format them on the PC ?

i dont put my disks near the pc. i have a blue zip disk that i always leave in my pc to copy pgms to. and all my mpc zips are black. i load the blue one in the mpc and eject it str8 away. then save to the black disks. when i get the card reader i will put the zip250 in ma pc and back all all my zip pgms to the cf card.

don't mean no disrespect but.....nobody is really telling me the problem and how it can be avoided....and i don't know what a card reader is so can someone explain to me what that is as well......??

How in the world did all me sounds stop loading into the mpc....without no magnet going next to them....and being well kept in the cases in my studio bag?? when it tries to load up is says that it has an error message...and all my sounds are straight up loss.....just want to know so that i won't go through this problem again....PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME SOUND ADVICE!!!! I WOULD REALLY APPREICATE...
