It's a regular laptop hard drive.
W/ a scsi bridge adapter.

Drive to the bridge to the scsi connector on the mpc 2k AND/OR 2kxl motherboard.

the problem with an internal HD is finding a good power source and compensating for the heat the HD will inevitably generate. i suggested in earlier posts how you could add your own internal power supply with it's own power switch. the switch would allow you to turn off the HD when it is not in use (not to mention its noise) and is safe because it does not require any modification to the mpc's power. this method will minimize the complications that could occur with heat and the danger of routing power from the mpc motherboard.

mpc3000 provides a fine example of a mounted internal HD. however, the IDE-SCSI bridge component is difficult to find and tends to be quite expensive. you might be better off just mounting a regular SCSI HD instead, as these are more widely available and value priced.

i've actually run a SCSI HD from an external power supply with my SCSI ribbon plugged into the mpc mother board. you might want to use that method just to verify that the HD will be recognized by your mpc before you do any further mods. all you need is a standard 12 volt power supply which you can get at any radio shack (the smaller the better).

Difficult to find for me, no, I see your point though, I always see them at about $60-$70 Us.

anyone has pic's on the mpc2k install? i have an 2.5g hd out of my vs1680 that i can use. this would be great to backup all of my sounds.

take a look at the link onumb posted at the begining of this thread. i don't mean to state the obvious but you could benefit from doing some research.
