New to this game..

Sorry to ask this but i gotta..

i have my mpc.. a technics 1200 turntable.. an alto mixer and studio monitors..

now i need to record sounds into the mpc from the turntable and realise i gotta go thru the mixer which has

audio in//out
8 line in
control room output
mixer room output

what way is best to do this ?

turntable on "phono"input of the mixer, then take the "line out" of the mixer trough the mpc "record in".

when you say phono input.. you mean ? sorry. i've always been just Fruity Loops and pc.. and will i use the ground plug if i use phono input ?

i have this alto amx-120

I downloaded the manual last night cause I know jack about alto or the kind of mixer it is, and there's no phono inputs on it. I was going to suggest try using the tape ins but I don't think that would work.
Sorry man but you might be better off buying a (budget) dj mixer to use for this. Did you just buy the Alto?

maybe if you plug it into the 2 track in. on my alto mixer there is a '2 track to control room' button. maybe if you press that it will turn on the 2 track input and you can hear it that way?...

but i have my turntable plugged into my multitrack...not sure how you would do it. try plugging your turntable directly into your MPC Record In. Thats how I used to do it

That Mixer does it have pre amp features? if not your going to need a seperate DJ MIXER, and plug the outs from that into your ALTO. the TT needs GND and either a DJ Mixer or a PREAMP.

What turntable comes with 1/4" TS plugs? Or is there some way (cable or adapter) of converting rca to 1/4"?

well I have a few rca -> 1/4" plugs. thats all I needed. plugged the rca into my turntable and the 1/4" into my mpc. the radio shack over here sells them.

you're talking about a standard rca to 1/4" cable, right? So your table must have rca outputs/detachable cables? Cool

yea when I had bought my turntable i realized damn, these are outputs instead of the 'attached' rca cable....so yea that was a cool feature. so i can covert the rca to 1/4" which is reaaaalllllyyy convenient..my last table didnt have that

you can use the main mix output to your mpc record in, or you can get cables that are rca on one side and 1/4 TRS on the other side and connect it to "Tape Out".

That should work, but I don't know how high the output is on the mixer. I know you are in australia, but in america you can go to Radio Shack and get a stereo phono pre amp. Thats how I have mine hooked up and it works like a charm.
