Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Yo,

So I finally got a external scsi cd-rom for my 2000xl and I want to use a bunch of akai S100 cd's I got. What I can't figure out is if my mpc can load up one of the partitions on the cd. Technically that would make sense, but are the cd's made for use with an mpc?

Do you have the scsi cd rom terminated? The mpc should be able to read the folders on the MPC cd-rom disc.

i think the cds will work if they were in data form.

I don't know if my SCSI rom is terminated, how do you check for that? I do see folders off an akai disc, and .S1 files, but no .pgm file? Does anyone else use Akai disc straight into the mpc?

If your tryin to read some CD-Roms that are in the S1000 format, the MPC2kXL will read the samples only (no programs) you can assign the samples to pads and create a Program as you load them

You will be able to get to all of the "partitions" on the CD Rom, you should see a letter under the SCSI ID that will tell you what partition you are looking at (or loading from) changing the letter will change to a different partition on the CD.

I'm not too sure if the MPC2kXL will display the contenets of the CD-Rom in folders as it's been awhile since i loaded anything from S1000 formatted CD Roms but give it a shot and see what happens

Is there any way to preview the sounds off an akai s100 cd before assigning them to pads? I'm starting to think that it may be better to rip the partition on the computer and make a program in mpc editor....

When you load a sample with the MP2kXL, you'll get the option to play it before you assign it to a pad but you still have to load it first. The MPC2kXL won't audition a sample before you load it.
