i searched the forum but still couldnt find anything on this. I have OS v1.14 on my 2000xl. will the IISDMC CF drive work on this OS? or do I need to have v1.2 installed first? thanks!

Breaking news:

The 1.20 OS has little to do with card reader compatibility. The primary change is to format cards/drives/zips a little differently for easier interopeability between the MPC and computers. When formatting removable disks (CF cards, Zips, etc) the XL does not use "MPC2000XL format", but rather it uses "PC" format.

In fact, Zip users can benefit from 1.20.

That is pretty strange to hear since I can not read CF cards formatted on the mpc in my pc.

I keep hearing "this brand of card reader works better- and blah blah blah." Please stop saying that cause is not true. It doesnt matter what brand of card reader you buy for the MPC2000XL, any will work as long as you install it the right way and running the correct OS. And to answer the brothers question above; install the newer OS version before adding the card reader to your MPC. Wether you do this or not, your CF card reader will still work if install the correctly.

PS: THE BRAND OF CHOICE FOR CF CARD READERS is "ADAPTEC" FOR QUALITY BY FAR! BUT ANY OTHER INTERNAL CARD READER WILL DO!!

ummm, that's not true, there are several card readers that will not work in the MPC.

From http://www.midicase.com/card_reader_guide.htm

"Argus, Spyrus or Litronic. These are for security cards and are not compatible with the MPC's (or any sampler that I know of).
Avoid "IDE only". Look for ATAPI or SCSI. IDE is non-removable, meaning it will work, but you will not be able remove or insert the card while the MPC is on.
Microtech PCD-60. It uses a multi-LUN configuration. Not compatible with the MPC's, but I use one of these in the computer with a SCSI host card that supports multi-lun.
Reader's that use a "controller card" are not compatible. The readers will have two connectors on the back. Avoid these."

"HE BRAND OF CHOICE FOR CF CARD READERS is "ADAPTEC" FOR QUALITY BY FAR"

"It doesnt matter what brand of card reader you buy for the MPC2000XL"

That's funny because Adpatec makes NO reader that can be used in the MPC2000XL. Aside from that, your statement is self contradictive. You say it does not matter, while X brand is better. Which is it?
