Sample rate and spdif problem

I have an Adigy 2 platinum (yeah laugh it up, its a soundblaster) that i bought way before i had my mpc. I want to sample through spdif. I think i have a proble though. I can set the output on the spdif to either 96khz, or 48khz. Doesnt the mpc only accept 44.1khz. when i try to sample through it, it won't work. The mpc goes to the retry screen right away, then it will just make this terrible screeching noise. is it because of the sample rate, 48khz just won't work? if so is there a way make it any lower? in my control panel, 48 and 96 are the only choices. thanks

i have the same propblem going out of my mpc spdif's, it says its a hot signal but gets no sound.

the output on my mpc works fine into my computer. i just can't sample from my computers out to the in on my mpc. i think because it puts out 48 khz

I thought the s/pdif was designed to let you sample at a higher rate?

maybe, but the highest, i think, is 44.1. This is what i am trying to find out. my soundcard (audigy 2 zs platinum) puts out 48 khz. i think this is why it won't work. I have a good spdif cable.

cant you just set your sound card to transmit 44.1KHz?

not that i can see. I have two available selections, 48khz, and 96 khz, that is it. if anyone is familiar with the audigy 2 zs platinum, and you know of a way, let me know. Or if there is a way to make 48 khz work, pleae let me know, thanks.
