Broken "Erase" button

I think my "erase" button has skitzed out. When in overdub and trying to erase a note nothing is happening. I've never had any problems with it before and I'm not getting any kind of error messages, but when I hold down "erase" and hold down a pad at the same time it just adds another note instance to the sequence. I've never really heard of the buttons going out and all of the buttons around it are working perfectly. Could there be some parameter I accidentally set or am I just S.O.L? Anybody have a similar experience? Any advice on fixing this?

Has nobody experienced this or similar problems? Surely someone here has some kind of experience with a button going dead.

Make sure you're on the track that the pad is played on.. I always forget to do that and am like wtff..

yeah, I've done that before, but unfortunately that's not the case in this instance. I think it's broke, but I didn't get to mess with it any last night.
