is there a way to get the os in the mpc 2000 like the xl

i got a mpc2000 and i hate loading the os through the floppy is there a way that it can be installed like the xl and are there any other upgrades i should know about. i bought it fully expanded 8out , spidif , max ram and all that.

There is a flash rom option for the MPC, you can save the OS to the flash rom and boot up from there. The flash rom also adds 8 meg of memory that is saved on the MPC. AKAI offered an 8 meg flash rom card, the FMX008, that worked in the MPC2000, MPC2000XL as well as the S2000/S3000XL samplers. Mutec had a cheaper model which was also available in a 16 meg version, FMC-8/FMC-16, but I don't see it on the mutec web-site. The Mutec boards will work in the MPC2000 and the samplers, but do not fit in the MPC2000XL.

You also load the OS from a Zip drive or SCSI drive.

I had the flash rom in my 2000 and it worked perfectly--NO MORE START UP DISK!

Wow this thread is old, found it researching a similar dilemma. I want to move my hard drive inside my S3000XL, got the risers, cable, and found an appropriate power source but I realized I will have the annoyance of loading the os manually from my hard drive as it won't be ready at boot up. Looked into the fmx008 rom board but even if you can find one they ain't cheap.
But vstservice.com sells eprom chips for like every akai ever made, including the mpc2000, xl, even os 1.2 for the S950 if you want to add SCSI (I think that's the right one, never had the pleasure of a 950 myself.) Unfortunately the only one out of stock is the one I need but I'm hoping they will be cool enough to burn one for me if I ask really nice.
They are all like $55 so screw paying $300 for 8 MB of memory.
Hope this helps anyone else tired of waiting for os loading and putting their trust in 15 year old floppy disks.

Seriously, what does this plug into? The description on the VST site says

Akai MPC-2000 Boot Rom Eprom Ver 1.0 software upgrade
E Prom software upgrade for MPC-2000 Boot Rom 1.0 with installation packet and needed addendums

Are you sure it's not just a replacement for a standard part already found in the 2000?
