Drum Change

If you had your drums, melody and bass all loaded up into the pads on your MPC is it possible to make drum changes without having to make a new sequence?

I listen to alot of beats and it seems that drum patterns are switched up thoughout the whole beat with ease and I'm just wondering if there is another way to make a simple change e.g a cymbol or extra snare without recording real time or making a new sequence in the song?

Use your note variation slider, just select the drum hit you want and it will change the pitch from fast to slow by guiding up and down.

Track Mute Screen

i highlight On:YES and press Open Window and it opens up the Track Mute Screen. just mute the drums when you dont want them there

1. The step/event editor. You can remove or add drum hits manually by selecting their location in a sequence and deleting them.

2. The second way to achieve basically the same thing is to record a drum track in 'overdub' and then hold the pad/sound you want erased when it plays in the sequence. The 'overdub' mode is also great for adding drum hits without starting from scratch as it adds to what you have already played.**OOPS, forgot you need the 'erase' key for this as well** Hold 'erase' and hit the pad to change the pattern.

It's best to start with a base sequence that basically contains everything you want in it. Then use either 'overdub' or the step editor to add/delete your changes. I used to do this before Protools by making one main sequence and then copying it 8-10 times and sculpting out various versions of the main sequence with slight changes. Mutes are OK but editing the sequences at root will make for less work when the track is done. 5000

You got room for 99 sequences, why not use it? Just copy the sequence (OPEN WINDOW on the sequence's name, chose copy, choose an empty sequence, VIOLA!) and change the drums or whatever you want, and there you go. I figure this is why we got so many sequences to use. I do this all the time and Ive never used more than 25 sequences (my sequences are usually 4 bars, tho) so I would think you could do all the change-ups you want and still not fill up those sequences.

It sounds kinda drastic to make a whole new sequence for the sake of an extra snare at the end of a bar...I think my sequencing would get a bit pickling, but I spose its what I gots to do.

I think I'll do the track muting thing too.
