Howdy y'all. I'm considering buying a used akai mpc 2000xl. just wondering what the advantages of an mpc are over other hardware options like a 2 box sequencer/sampler setup for around the same price? I currently work with cubase, but have got more and more interested in sample based stuff through listening to DJ shadow et all. I heard that Entroducing was made entirely on a collection of mpc60's! Also, how compatible is the 2kxl with a PC? Any help would be much appreciated.
Whoa, it's bin so long, so long, so long since I bin at this forum...I guess it depends on your price. This is an MPC2kxl forum essentially therefore we use and endorse this machine and most of us love it. I do. I think if you are buying a 2nd hand mpc U need it to have 1. 32MB RAM 2. 8 out s/pdif card and 3. storage device (eg zip). Mpcs don't link in with puters as such through scsi or usb, as more modern devices do, but xfer of samples btwn the two/syncing/recording from mpc to PC is definitely doable. I do it all the time. I don't know why, it don't make sense, but the MPC is an instrument with a feel that just works for beat based music.
I thought Endtroducing was done on turntables and an mpc2000, but I could be wrong.
