Mpc boots up very slow

Ok, i installed an internal zip drive. now when i turn on the mpc it takes like a minute to boot up. After that it works fine. I have seen this question on here before, but have yet to see it be solved.

if the sounds take a while to load, maybe you are using .wav sounds, instead of the .snd sounds.... the .wav files are larger than normal mpc .snd files

Do you have the newest OS?

Hey bro... everybody has had that problem with a Zip.
Try starting the MPC without a disk in the drive. That should speed it up a whole .04 sec's.

i think we are waiting on dude to respond so we can figure out his exact problem or exactly whats going on.... he may say booting up, and mean load, or etc...

this happens without a disk in the drive, after i turn it on, it says wait. it used to only take a few seconds with the disk drive in, then i installed the zip drive, and now it says wait for 1 minute. With a disk in or not, no matter what is on the disk. or even if there is no disk in, it still does it. i have the newest os, and am not loading from a disk when i boot. I have a 2000 xl. i am stumped, don't know why it does this.

I don't know if this'll help the boot-up time, but you should probably install OS 1.14 now to prevent any problems from occuring. I can't give you exact details but some people have be known to have problems with their mpcs while running OS 1.20 without a card reader installed.

c'mon, somebody else has to have had this problem before and figured out a solution, even if it is a new zip drive.

try reinstalling the floppy drive and see if its still slow. if it isnt then reinstall the zip. if its still slow after u reinstalled the zip then i would get a new zip drive cuz there might be something wrong with the one your using.

Is this a SCSI or ATAPI/IDE Zip drive?

It is an atapi drive. The problem does go away when I reinstall the floppy drive. So that means it is a bad zip drive. I kinda thought that, just wanted to make sure. thanks

hmm, i was just about to post the same topic, i got the same problem, after i installed the internal 100mb zipdrive (atapi) it takes about 1 min. to boot the mpc. it is a pain in the ass.
well well, looks like i got to buy a card reader if the problem wont be solved=/

yeah it seems that nobody has a solution to this problem, but alot of people have this problem. that sucks. i think we need to either get a new zip drive, or like you said, a card reader.
